The Sub-Antarctic: from boiled penguins to French cabbage
What comes to mind when you think of the Sub-Antarctic? Does it involve snow tipped mountains, plunging crevasses and icy glaciers? Well you would be slightly off target. Experts from around the world recently gathered in Hobart, ranging in expertise in everything from boiled penguins, the French diet and training labradors in a region depicted with snow, but also gloriously coloured flora and fauna. Not what you expected? Former Tasmanian governor Sir Guy Green is the chairman of the Sub-Antarctic board and the honorary Antarctic Ambassador, and says until recently the area had been greatly underappreciated.
